About Us

Chavrie® is a modern goat cheese for food lovers who want to bring a healthy twist to their everyday culinary experience.

The first and finest American Goat Cheese was introduced in 1989 in its original pyramid shape. Based on a traditional French recipe, Chavrie® All Natural Goat Cheese is made in New Holland, in the lush, green and fertile farmlands of Lancaster County, the heart of Pennsylvania's Dutch Country.

The cheese plant was originally built in 1925 by a group of Amish farmers. Most of the milk used to make Chavrie® still comes from local Amish farms located along miles of scenic winding roads.

The foundation of our success was built upon our dedication to quality: the fresh, taste of Chavrie® All Natural Goat Cheese finds its origin in our dairy farmers, who work hard, strive for excellence and are proud of their rich heritage.

Every morning and every evening, they guide their herd from the pasture to the milking barn. The Nubian and Alpine goats graze freely in open, grassy fields, their diet supplemented by sweet hay from the field of the farms.

This harmony between the animals, the herder and the land contributes to the purity and quality of the milk and to the natural goodness of all our goat cheeses.

We are proud of the valued relationship we have with our dairy farmers. It is their close-to-the-land farming techniques that is the foundation for our 100% All Natural Goat Cheese.

Why are Chavrie® Pyramids truncated?

The story goes that one evening, Napoleon was dining in the French countryside with one of his ministers. The Emperor was reminiscing on his failed Egypt War campaign when he was presented with goat cheeses from a local farm, one of them a tall pointed pyramid.

He took his sword and chopped the top off, ordering that from now on, no cheese will ever be made in France with a pointed top. Since then, many French goat cheeses have adopted the form of a truncated pyramid.
